Vocational Rehabilitation Services
If you are disabled, one of the most important organizations you need to contact is your State Vocational Rehabilitation Service. Vocational Rehabilitation can provide funding for school, training, and assistive technology in most states, some even a 100%. If this does not get you to people who can actually assist you let me know and I will give you a link to your specific contact information. Depending on your State, Voc Rehab may be part of a One Stop Career Center along other agencies like Workforce.
If you are not a current disabled client of your State Vocational Rehabilitation services, I suggest you contact them soon as some states have a waiting list. You don't want to be on a Vocational Rehabilitation disabled waiting list when you are ready to use a Social Security PASS plan. You want that already taken care of so you can use the Voc Rehab funds in addition to the PASS funds.
Remember, a PASS Plan pays for items over and above the funding you can receive from these other organizations like Vocational Rehabilitation or Workforce who work with the disabled; even if you think they are covering the cost 100%. Are they covering things like car payments, car insurance, childcare, food while in school, etc? A PASS Plan Can!!!
Workforce, Workforce Development
Make sure you check out your One Stop Career Center and Workforce for additional disability funds. Depending on your resources you may be able to get funding for school from Workforce Development through the WIA funds. Again, some States Workforce Development pay upto 100% of your school or training costs. Check this out so that you can use your PASS Plan funds for expenses that are not already covered by someone else.
